Community Service

A Scout is helpful.
A Scout promises to help other people at all times.
A Scout does a good turn daily.

Scouts regularly do service for the community. Below are some of the organizations Scouts benefited and projects our Scouts have done in the past:

  • Agape Food Pantry
  • Rural Retreat Depot
  • Rural Retreat Pentecostal Holiness Church
  • Settler’s Museum of Southwest Virginia
  • Community trash pick-ups
  • Community flag retirement ceremonies
  • Placing American flags on veterans’ graves in local cemeteries

Life Scouts are required to plan and lead service projects for their Eagle Scout rank. Below are the Eagle service projects Scouts have done in the past:

  • Handicap ramp at Settler’s Museum of Southwest Virginia (Avery Jernigan)
  • Free food pantry at Open Door Cafe (Jordan Fallon)
  • Backpacks for the homeless (Daniel Ball)
  • Landscaping at Crockett Tabernacle (Ethen Williamson)
  • Playground fence at Rural Retreat Baptist Church (Ryan Justus)
  • Picnic tables at Appalachian Christian Academy (Jacob Lawson)
  • Park benches at Rural Retreat Lake Park (Billy Chandler)
  • Amphitheater at Rural Retreat Library (Nathaniel Reardon)
  • Sand volleyball court at Rural Retreat High School (David Harrison)
  • Handicap ramp at Mount Olive Church (Matthew Burch)
  • Flag pole at Rural Retreat Library (Corey Catron)
